How to Practice Without Going to the Range

Life happens, and sometimes it gets in the way of getting to the golf course or to the range in order to practice and sharpen your skills. We all know too well how work, family commitments, and the weather can quickly diminish the amount of time on the driving range.

Here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind so that you can continue working toward your golf aspirations from the comfort of your own home.

Improve Your Putting

Putting at home is easier than you may think. If you have carpeted floors, this is a great surface for gaining the control and feel of your putter. Use an old mug or cup as your target hole and putt away!

Another option for working on your putting is to place a coin on a golf ball. Place that ball at the opposite end of the room and then putt using another ball. The objective is to putt the ball closest to the other ball without knocking off the coin.

You can also invest in a putting mat, which can be used in your garage, basement, or outdoors.

Use a Golf Simulator

Daily swing drills

Whether it’s raining or you simply don’t have time to get in a range session, you can still practice your swing. The garage, basement, or your backyard are all prime real estate for knocking out a few swing drills.

Set a goal of practicing 50 or 100 swings a day without using a ball. Though it may seem silly, these drills can have a huge impact on your success once you get back to the range.

Swing drills improve several aspects of your game, including toughening your hands, increasing your strength, and increasing mobility through the use of repetitive motions. These drills are also ideal for correcting swing errors.
